Early Warning of an Anti-Green Backlash
While in Canada many businesses over the past years, magically became “green”, and claim that their products or services are “environmentally friendly” for any reasons, some countries like Australia have tightened the rules. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission put in place strict guidelines concerning these type of claims.
Here in Vancouver, there’s cement companies such as Ocean Construction Supplies Limited, one of Lehigh Cement Company’s ready-mix operations doing business on Granville Island advertising themselves as being green and eco-friendly!
“Australian marketers are being advised to stop making vague claims about a product’s environmental benefits. New guidelines from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warns companies about claiming products are “green,”“environmentally friendly,” “environmentally safe,” “energy efficient,” “recyclable” or “carbon neutral. Companies breaching the guidelines face fines of up to $1.1 million”[junkscience]
