Is Earth Hour Soft Fascist?
From Sidney in Australia to Rome’s Colosseum to Canadian big cities to Chicago’s Sears Tower’s antennas, lights went dark for Earth Hour, a worldwide campaign to hype the so-called threat of climate change. It’s an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8 pm local time until 9 pm to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions. Even Google U.S went dark while the other language version such as the French version of Google remained white as usual.
People in Canada, and the world are following the lead of a caste of “Global Warming” and “Global Climate Change” advocates towards a new socio-economic scenario that, if made clear, no-one would want. I would suggest that the threat to earth is not either climate change nor the “socio-economic crisis”, but the mindless conformism that support silly ideas such as Earth Hour.

Green rhetoric, constantly reminds people of their culpability. That is the reason why I think environmentalism is more akin to some form of religious awakening than to a political ideology such as fascism as Peter Foster of the Financial Post suggested in his column of March 26. Like born again christians, environmentalists speak, in their way, of fire and brimstone. Like the preacher, the environmental activist demands that we perform some ritual and give ourselves to something beyond ourselves and that we do penance for our wasteful, carbon-profligate sins. Like the Catholic Church they ask people to perform rituals such as shutting their light off for an hour, they even sell indulgences such as carbon offsets now. But I agree with Peter Foster when he says, “If you love civilization, freedom and the use of reason, keep on all the lights you need on Saturday. Take Back the Night.”
Here is a snippet of Peter Foster’s column on the National Post:
“The cause, masterminded by the World Wildlife Fund, WWF, is allegedly to raise awareness of climate change. But what needs raising is not so much awareness as knowledge. People are woefully ignorant both about the uncertainties of climate-change science and the implications of climate-change politics. However, the WWF has no interest in discussing or debating the issue. According to them, we should “stop talking and start acting.” Check your brains at the door.
Far from being a harmless gesture of support for the environment, Earth Hour is symbolic of a spreading soft fascism, aided by well-meaning individuals and well-meaning and/or cynical and/ or scared corporations. Indeed, what is truly astonishing, and disturbing, about this turn-out-the-lights exercise is how many businesses and corporations have signed on to it. According to the WWF Canada, they haven’t had one “no” from any company they’ve approached.”[National Post]”
