Charlton Heston Died Yesterday

Charlton Heston was an American Academy Award-winning film actor. I remember Heston since I am kid for playing heroic roles, such as Moses in The Ten Commandments, Colonel George Taylor in Planet of the Apes and Judah Ben-Hur in Ben-Hur.
He was an excellent actor. He always portrayed great men and did so in his own larger than life manner. His movie appearances stopped since a few years ago, but his presence on screen will never be forgotten by those who enjoyed his movies. I want to watch Planet of the Apes or Soylent Green again.

Heston was diagnosed, around six years ago, with neurological symptoms similar to the ones of Alzheimer’s disease.
“Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played,” Heston’s family said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. “No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country.” via [USA Today]

The Afghan Version of American Idol

It appears that some bits of western culture is definitely reaching Afghanistan. On March 13 mainstream media reported that a woman from the conservative Pashtun belt, that’s the Afghan version of the U.S “bible belt”, is one of the top three contenders in the country’s version of “American Idol.” I wonder if members of the Canadian Army based in Afghanistan to protect big oil companies interests watched it.

Being an American Idol junkie, I considered myself the perfect journalist to delve further into Afghan Star. So I watched all of the episodes put on YouTube by Tolo TV, the network that has raised so much of that clerical ire. The audition tapes were the best: As Idol begins each season by showing the good — and the very, very bad — performers from audition cities, Star also had audition shows from Kabul, Kandahar, Mazar-e-Sharif, and more; more than 2,000 hopefuls tried out for a chance to win $5,000 U.S. and a record deal. The audition shows opened with catchy music and fast-paced shots of the host city and its people — with production values equal to that of American TV, and some of the landscapes resembling Barstow.” [PAJAMA MEDIA]

The service offers full-length episodes of NBC and FOX television programs, including shows from the Bravo, Fuel TV, FX, Sci Fi, Style, Sundance, and Oxygen channels. Hulu also offers selected movies.
“At launch, Hulu will offer full-length episodes of more than 250 TV series from current hits such as “The Simpsons” as well as older shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” It also will offer 100 movies including “The Big Lebowski” and “Mulholland Drive.” [reuter]
You can watch further developments on the Hulu Blog.
The W-Lister Blog sez, ” What I’m worried about, though, is not being to enjoy Hulu.com in Canada. Here we’re unable to legally purchase television shows and movies online through means such as iTunes. We can’t even watch the sponsored stuff offered for free as is done by ABC. ”

“Land of the Lost” Character: Sleestak
Sleestak Glow in the Dark.
”While the characters of the “Land of the Lost” TV show may never wish to see another Sleestak as long as they live, it makes a great collectible for those that remember this show from the 70’s”.
Sleestak are large green humanoids with both reptilian and insectoid features; they have scaly skin with frills around the neck, bulbous unblinking eyes, pincer-like hands, stubby tails, and a single blunt horn on top of the head. See Product

Moment of Truth
One of the lowest moments in TV history happened this week on the show ‘Moment of Truth’ where a married couple basically humiliated themselves in front of millions of people—and got zero dollars. What does it say about us that a show like this is on the air?
The wife of a New York City cop who admitted to cheating on him and wanting to be married to another man on Monday’s episode of Fox’s “The Moment of Truth” says she did it for fame and fortune. [Fox News]
