RANDOM TOUGHTS
RAUL says, “I am (as many of you may know or may not know) a non-native English speaker. However, I speak six other languages in addition to my native tongue, so if you’ve heard me speak, you probably know that it is *really* hard to tell my accent. I speak good enough (this is commonly designated near-native fluency) to not only make myself understood, but to have been able to create deep friendships and share meanings and communicate my thoughts with fairly good precision.” link

This is not unusual in Vancouver since every day you are bound to run into a few people begging for change. Global TV caught footage of a homeless man’s possessions being crushed in a garbage truck with a police escort in Yaletown last week [If you click on the link, choose “BC Stories” and look for “Humble Possessions Crushed”, and sit through the 30 second commercial]. The man had left his belongings for an hour, going to get information about access to affordable housing. Seriously. link

STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE
SAGN is open. We had a glorious show for a very appreciative Portland audience, who clapped wildly at “The Great Northwest - where it is in him for a man to be as big and important as it is in him to be.” It was fun and well-deserved. We partied at the Armory, the Life of Reilly, and a club in Southeast that I couldn’t tell you where it was. I slept through my first train, and made the second one. link

April Fool’s Day

April Fools’ Day or All Fools’ Day, though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fools’ errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible.
