The condition of a washroom tells you a lot about a business or restaurant. When you are shopping around and you need to go … you will have one of these days to use one of the public washrooms in Vancouver. We have launched a serie of weekly posts. Once a week we will take you for a tour of washrooms. The best and the worst Vancouver has to offer. You will be the judges when you’ll see the photos. Here is our first set of 3 photos.
Starbucks Washroom - rating 4/10
Here is the Starbucks washroom at the Chapters Robson location at approximately 2 PM on March 12, 2008.
Address: 788 Robson Street, Vancouver, B.C
One thing you cannot tell from that picture is the stink due to poor ventilation and it was dirty. There were handles for the handicapped. No toilet seats cover to be found and no deodorizer.

Sears Washroom - rating: 8/10
This is the Sears washroom at their downtown location on March 12, 2008 around 3 pm.
Address: 701 Granville Street, Vancouver, B.C.
Spotless, very clean white tiles and for a washroom it smells good. There is a large toilet paper roll and a deodorizer above the toilet. The washroom is equipped for wheel chair accessibility with good handles on the walls.

Waterfront Centre Washroom - Rating: 6/10
The washroom depicted below is right around the food court at the Waterfront Centre. I was there at around 3:30 pm on March 12, 2008.
Location: Howe & Cordova Vancouver, BC
Overall it is clean but it had a few papers on the floor. Hopefully they had not been used! Something that’s very rare in most Canadian washrooms is toilet seat covers. Most american cities have bylaws concerning these. But in Canada it appears as a rarity found only in the best of hotels.

Here is a little ending note to this week review. We just found out the following bilingual website: www.powderroom.ca . It is promoted as a “place for you to share your experiences, questions, concerns, stories and thoughts about overactive bladder,” where naturally the location and condition of public washrooms can be a hot topic.
